My Peer's posts
- In Ali Ferguson's Post I learned about all the haunted houses in New York and how she found about 30 articles on the subject. I learned about the haunted house in cherry hill because the furniture in the house is moved and thrown around. Mostly the reason that the houses were haunted was because someone was killed inside them
- In Noelle Carter's Post I learned about Coney Island and how it all started as Sea-Lion Park. When Coney Island was at its peak, it was considered to be a place of great attraction and it appealed more to the middle class. I also learned about all the rides at the Coney Island.
- In Jamaree's post i learned about basketball and that it was Found by James Naismith. I learned what basketballs were made out of back then and how they used real baskets to shoot the balls at.I also learned that the first games were low-scoring and slow paced rather than today's fast paced basketball game. I also learned about the first basketball gear like the shoes and other apparel
The Progress of my Project
I am doing my project on the car industry in the late 19th century and how it affected the society and the city life. Right now I am mainly focusing on how the machine was invented and where it was invented and after that I will be talking more about American Companies that started to build cars and industrialize themselves pushing the city life into a new level. Also I will be mentioning facts about how the automobile had an impact on the culture of the era.
Americans and Halloween
An average American spends about 70 dollars on his or her costume and candy and that is not including their children or their family. Even though it is not the most celebrated holiday in the year, it is still one of the biggest ones. I think that spending that much time and money on a costume that you will probably wear for one night is ridiculous and pointless but i guess with the marketing ads going around it is almost impossible to not spend money during any holiday. It is predicted that Americans will spend 2.3 billion dollars on Halloween candy this year pushing it to a new record. That is just a ridiculous number just for candy if you ask me. Overall, even though people like to spend money on pointless things, it helps out the economy since making purchases are supposed to help the American economy that is in a bad condition right now.
Answer to question 3 on industrial supremacy
The characteristics of women in the industrial workforce was that they were overwhelmingly white and mostly white. 75 percent of them were under 25 years of age and majority of them were immigrants.
What it Means to be a Nation of Immigrants
America has been called many things. A Nation of Immigrants is one of them and I think it is the best one after "The Greatest Country in the World". The reason is because so many people from different countries come to this great land to start over and feel the pursuit of happiness. I think it has shaped the country in the greatest way possible. All the immigrants bring their greatest traits to this country which shaped it to be perfect. Something very interesting about it is that no one can really say they are all american due to the fact that their ancestors were once immigrants so no matter how hard they try, there is always going to be a part of them that is still an immigrant there is no shame in that, it is our ancestors that we get our inspirations from that help us move forward.
After watching the films, I became more aware of myself and started to expect more from myself as well mostly due to the fact that I am the first from my family to move into the United States and the decisions i make will affect my off-springs. Even though this country became the best in the world I think me and other immigrants still have something to offer in order to make it even better.
