Pictures From the Great Depression

New York, New York. 61st Street between 1st and 3rd Avenues. Newspapers for sale. 1938 Summer. Walker Evans.

Walker Evans was simply trying to capture what was going on in the streets during the great dpression with his pictures. This picture shows that the newspaper sales were still going on after the market crashed because people still wanted to know what was going on with the economy and around the country in general. It also shows that even though people only had money to barely survive, they still bought newspapers. At the same time, this picture depicts the great depression because the distributor of these newspapers does not have a newspaper stand and is just selling them on their own.
